Wintec is one of New Zealand’s largest metropolitan Institutes of Technology/Polytechnics (ITPs), and a leading provider of high quality, vocational and professional education in the Waikato region.  Wintec has more than 600 dedicated staff and over 26,000 students studying across seven campuses throughout the region.

Wintec’s mission is to build a stronger community through education, research and career development (Ki te whakakaha i te iwi hāpori mā te ara matauranga, rangahau arā umanga whanakenga).  To achieve this, Wintec works in partnership with schools, industries, businesses, other educational providers, iwi and community and government agencies.

In 2009, Wintec won three national, tertiary education excellence awards for:

• Innovative support services - for SODA Inc, the new business incubator in partnership with the Hamilton City Council.
• Relevant learning - for their employer partnership groups, which represent the interests of more than 300 local businesses.
• Global role - particularly their office and partnerships in China.
